OCULAR HISTORY

 (from the AAP Policy Statement ‘Eye Examinations in Infants, Children, and Young Adults’)

  1.    Take a history of parental observations and concerns. 
  2.    Take a family history of eye problems.
  3.    Take a history of risk factors for eye and vision disorders

Questions might include:

  • Does your child seem to see well? 

  • Does your child hold objects close to his/her face when trying to focus?

  • Do your child’s eyes appear straight or do they seem to cross or drift or seem lazy?

  • Do your child’s eyes appear unusual?

  • Do your child’s eyelids droop or does one eyelid tend to close?

  • Have your child’s eyes ever been injured?

  • Has anyone in your family needed glasses at an early age?
